Conwy Rural Community Chest
What is Conwy Rural Community Chest?
This grant scheme is available to rural communities which have already received financial support for a community needs appraisal through Rural Community Action.
Following consultation with local people at events held within their town or village, an appraisal is drawn up detailing recommendations for projects that will make a difference to those communities – covering areas such as leisure, youth activity, social enterprise and the environment. Conwy Rural Community Chest grants help these communities to progress the ideas and projects identified in the appraisal.
Through the Rural Community Action programme around 16 appraisals have been undertaken in rural Conwy so far. To ensure the needs of local people are met, information is gathered at a community level, engaging with residents of all ages. Although these projects are instigated by community or town councils in the first instance, most communities go on to develop a separate community group to take the projects forward.
Grants covering 80% of the total cost of a community project (up to the value of £5,000) are available – matched funding of 20% will need to be raised or sourced by the community group.
