CEFN Conwy
About the project
This project is designed to enhance the technical knowledge and environmental management skills of farmers in rural Conwy.
The project will help farmers to effectively manage their livestock farmland, by addressing problems attributed to diffuse pollution (soil, nutrients and pathogens) and by reducing diffuse pollution into water courses.
The project will look at existing research, while farmer knowledge and current practices will be assessed. It is hoped the project will increase farmers’ capacity to join the Tir Cynnal scheme (where 5% of a farm is classified as habitat), and that it will have a positive impact on Conwy’s tourism industry by enhancing the rural environment – and the quality of locally-produced foods.
The project will involve creating bilingual technical guidance, which will be available on paper and on-line. Advice and guidance will also be given at on-farm demonstration events, which will be developed into formal skills training for individual farmers. The project will also look at factors influencing the uptake of agri-environment schemes, will help participants to qualify for such schemes, and will assist them to meet Water Framework Directive targets.
