Establishment of Church Tourism and Development of Open Doors European Heritage Day Programme

About the project

The purpose of this project is to create a heritage trail of churches and chapels across rural Conwy. The trail will allow local people and visitors to explore the history, culture and landscape surrounding rural Conwy’s churches and chapels – and to discover the importance of these places of worship within communities.

The project is designed to attract visitors to all corners of the county. It will encourage churches to open their doors to visitors, enabling the churches themselves to become more sustainable and benefiting the economy of rural villages as a whole.

The project aims to inspire volunteers to get involved and to encourage a co-operative network between churches, volunteers and the community. The project will enable rural churches and chapels to work together to provide a quality visitor experience by implementing things like setting up a website and installing interpretation facilities.
